Our laying flock is kept in a coop with daily access to a large run. Our hens are all fed a 100% organic feed. We do not free-range our flock for several reasons. First, there are foxes, coyotes, and other predators nearby. Second, we do not have the time to run around the property trying to locate where they've laid their eggs. Third, there's the concern of infectious diseases from wild birds and farm biosecurity. For all these reasons, we keep our hens in a spacious coop with a large run and a rooster to make sure they are safe, sheltered, and healthy, especially during our harsh winters.
